Anna Louise Williams

Anna Louise Williams, the 6th child of the late Howard Washington Williams and LaFayette Alice Cromer Williams departed this life on Sunday, March, 2008.

She attended Durham public schools, except for the first and second grades, which were completed in Newberry SC. She completed her undergraduate work in 1976 and her medical degree in 1980 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After medical school she completed a Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans where she was the Chief Resident from 1983 to 1984. She completed an Ultrasound and Computed Tomography Fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital in June 1985.

After finishing her professional education, she joined the Washington Radiology Associates, where she worked until 1996. She also served as Staff Radiologist at Columbia Hospital for Women, Kaiser Permanente and the Washington Hospital Center.  She subsequently returned to Kaiser Permanente as a staff Radiologist, where she was employed until her death. She focused her professional career on mammography to help cancer patients, particularly minority women, who have unusually high rates of rare types of cancer.

Anna's professional affiliations included the Radiologic Society of North America, The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and The District of Columbia Metropolitan Radiological Society.

Anna was married to Wayne B. McLurkin, of Charlotte NC. She met her "Bert" while pursuing her Medical Degree at UNC. From the beginning Wayne appeared to be her soul mate. Anna and Wayne were married in September 1982. Wayne's' parents, William F. and Pauline B. McLurkin, became an integral part of Anna's life as well as the extensive Williams family's life.

Anna's family was very central to her life.  She grew up doing everything with her sisters and brothers, including attending St. Titus' Episcopal Sunday School and Church.

Anna loved music, especially jazz. Her favorite pastime was traveling, seeing the world accompanied by her loving husband, sisters, brothers or close friends. She also cherished any time spent with her family and her close friends Dianne Cooper, Cynthia Crawford-Green, Wanda Bryant and Suzette Stines.

Anna was a caring sharing and generous soul, traits she demonstrated tirelessly throughout her life.

In addition to her beloved husband Wayne and her mother-in-law, Pauline McLurkin (Ma Mac), Anna leaves to cherish her memory - four sisters, Lauriette W. West-Hoff (Julius), LaFayette W. Lipscomb (O. Ray), Julia Williams-Davis and Naomi Scherrye Williams ( Lawrence) and two brothers Howard Washington Williams III and Fred James Williams ( Janice), all of Durham, NC.  Anna was raised with love, nurtured and matured in the household of Lauriette and David A. West, Sr. with David A. West, Jr. (Pamela) and Ray A. West (Eyvonne).  Anna is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, god children, very special cousins and friends throughout the world.

She will be greatly missed by us all, especially by Wayne. She has joined her parents in a peaceful plane beyond this earthly one.

Sleep in peace our loved one.
